What we believe is what we perceive.

I was recently asked by my cousin Erin what it means to manifest abundance. Surprisingly, I've never been asked that before. I was excited about the opportunity to ask myself what manifesting abundance means to me personally and to get a better idea of the broader meaning behind it.

We all have an understanding of what abundance means, but if you don't, it is defined as 'an extremely plentiful or over sufficient quantity or supply'. Since that is fairly easy to grasp, I think the real word that needs to be focused on here is manifest.

In my own life and the spiritual working world I've found manifest is basically interchanged with the word create. And rightfully so, we are constantly creating/manifesting even if we are not aware of it. Not just with our actions, but with our thoughts and our beliefs, which inform our actions.

The word manifest literally means 'readily perceived by the eye or understanding'.

By this definition, perception is everything. And since we're already in the dictionary, the definition of perceive: to become aware of, envision, recognize or identify by means of the understanding and senses.

In my experience with manifesting, the envisioning comes first, then understanding, followed by the evidence to the senses. Manifesting anything begins in first opening our minds to the possibility that the thing we desire exists in the first place and that we are worthy of having it.

Abraham-Hicks says, "a belief is just a thought you keep thinking." We are all programmed to perceive the world in one way or another. Our beliefs about ourselves and the world influence our perception of ourselves and the world. We have the choice to change those beliefs at anytime. Our repeating thoughts can limit us or set us free.

I love this quote from Yogistoned, "If you believe you are worthy, passionate, clever and resourceful, then you are. If you believe you are unworthy, bored, stupid and incapable, then you are. You are what you believe. Don't like it. Change your beliefs."

Manifesting directly correlates to our deep beliefs about who we are, what we're capable of, what we deserve etc. The next time you catch yourself saying something like, I can't do that, I'll never have that, it's impossible. Ask yourself why. Why do you believe that to be true? Is it because someone told you that about yourself? Is it because that's how you've been taught the world works? Answers live inside the questions that we ask ourselves. They are door ways to possibilities and new realities.

To loop back and directly answer Erin's question, when we're talking about manifesting abundance, we're talking about recognizing (to perceive as existing or true) that abundance itself exist all around us and within us. And the Universe supports our desire to manifest more. Just look around you, nature has a natural propensity to produce innumerable plants, animals, humans, ideas, the Universe itself is literally expanding and creating new stars!

Whatever it is you're looking to manifest, take some time to ask yourself what you believe about that thing. If you want to have more money, do you believe there is more than enough out there in the world, not just for the already wealthy, but for you as well? Do you believe that there are several ways for you to have more money, or only one way, or no way at all? If you crave more kindness, do you believe that kindness exists within you and in others? If you desire love, do you believe you deserve to be loved exactly as you are?

So, what is it that you want more of?

Thanks Erin for your question! I loved the opportunity to look at things a little more closely and hopefully deliver a satisfying answer for you. I encourage you to do your own look into manifesting and see what resonates with you.
